CHARGER INVITE: Jarzombek pitches Sundevils to 3-0 first day

Ashley Jarzombek looked as though she could throw all day Monday.
With the success the Eldorado senior was having, she may have liked to.
Instead, she settled for two wins and the Sundevils collected three victories on the opening day of the Charger Invitational at Big League Dreams.
Jarzombek nearly tossed a no-hitter to begin the day.
She didn’t allow a hit until a single with two outs in the top of the seventh as the Sundevils downed North Hollywood (Calif.), 7-0.
Jarzombek then tossed a six-inning five-hitter as Eldorado posted a 5-3 win over Holtville (Calif.).
In the opener, Jarzombek struck out 12. She hit one batter, but didn’t allow any walks.
Taylor Schroeder went 2-for-3 with a pair of triples, two runs and an RBI for Eldorado.
Against Holtville, Jarzombek struck out eight and went 2-for-3. Theresa Cianflocco was also 2-for-3 for Eldorado.
The Sundevils collected a third win when Big Bear (Calif.) forfeited its afternoon game for a game-limit rule.
Las Vegas 3, Liberty 2 — Taylor Price’s single in the bottom of the fifth inning plated Ashly Westgarth with the winning run, helping the Wildcats rally to nip the Patriots.
Kristina Nelson spun a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts for Las Vegas, which tied the game on an RBI double by Westgarth in the fifth.
Jasmina Salas also smacked a double for the Wildcats.
Liberty’s Francesca Foti struck out 12 in a four-hitter, and also had a two-run double in the third inning.
El Capitan (Calif.) 6, Las Vegas 0 — Delanie Gourley spun a five-inning one-hitter as the Vaqueros blanked the Wildcats.
Westgarth’s first-inning single was Las Vegas’ only hit.
Brawley (Calif.) 5, Las Vegas 1 — Brawley made the most of three hits to top the Wildcats in six innings.
Brooke Booth tossed a three-hitter, and Westgarth went 2-for-3 with a double for Las Vegas.
El Capitan (Calif.) 6, Liberty 1 — The Patriots managed just three singles in a four-inning loss to El Capitan.
Liberty 10, Mar Vista (Calif.) 5 — Jenna McLemore went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Elli Brown was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs as the Patriots doubled up Mar Vista.
Silverado 4, Birmingham (Calif.) 3 — Pinch-runner Madison Sisco scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Skyhawks pulled out a win.
Hannah McCall and Gabby Petronzi combined on a four-hitter for Silverado.
Otay Ranch (Calif.) 8, Silverado 5 — The Mustangs used a pair of four-run innings to down the Skyhawks in six innings.
Ashlee Phillips was 2-for-3 with a double for Silverado. McCall was 2-for-3, and Riana Splinter blasted a two-run homer for the Skyhawks.
Lincoln (Calif.) 6, Silverado 1 — Brianna Lopez tossed a five-inning two-hitter to help the Tigers down the Skyhawks.
Angelica Felix was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs for Lincoln, which used a four-run third inning to take control.
Phillips smacked a double for Silverado.
Cardinal Newman (Calif.) 9, Tech 2 — The Cardinals scored three runs in the top of the first and never looked back en route to a win in five innings.
Jordyn Roark was 2-for-3 with a double for the Roadrunners.
Tech 6, Clark 5 — Roark and Jamison Bascom scored the tying and winning runs on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Roadrunners nipped the Chargers.
Kimmie Rodriguez was 3-for-4, and Roark went 2-for-3 with a triple for Tech. Bascom was 2-for-4.
Alia Armstrong went 3-for-4 for Clark.
Madison (Calif.) 12, Tech 1 — Madison scored 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning, including nine on two outs, to down the Roadrunners.
Mariah Clayton went 2-for-2 for Tech.
Madison (Calif.) 12, Clark 0 — The Chargers managed only a first-inning single by Armstrong in a four-inning loss to Madison.
Cardinal Newman (Calif.) 11, Clark 1 — The Cardinals held the Chargers to two hits in a four-inning rout.
Shadow Ridge 8, Granada Hills (Calif.) 5 — JoJo Brewer and Krislyn Campos each had two hits with a home run to help the Mustangs top the Highlanders in four innings.
Freshman Justin Garganese was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored for Shadow Ridge, which pounded out 12 hits.
Irene Rivera belted a three-run homer for Granada Hills.
Carson (Calif.) 10, Shadow Ridge 0 — Carson rolled past the Mustangs in a four-inning game.
Campos had two of Shadow Ridge’s three hits.
Santana (Calif.) 6, Shadow Ridge 1 — Santana scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to down the Mustangs in five innings.
Garganese doubled and scored the Mustangs’ run.
Cathedral Catholic (Calif.) 9, Durango 2 — The Dons scored the final nine runs of the game and downed the Trailblazers in four innings.
Katie Moore had a solo home run for Durango.
Valhalla (Calif.) 2, Durango 1 — The Norsemen plated single runs in the third and fourth inning and held Durango to four hits in a six-inning win.
Kendall Short was 1-for-4 with a double for the Trailblazers.
Banning (Calif.) 1, Durango 0 — Banning scored the game’s lone run on a fielding error with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to nip the Trailblazers.
Dallas Boyce tossed a two-hitter for Durango.
