Williams, Bonds lead Centennial girls to Sunset Freshman-Sophomore title
Tamera Williams and Tiana Bonds each won a pair of individual events Friday to help Centennial’s girls track team capture the title at the Sunset Region Freshmen-Sophomore Meet at Arbor View.
Centennial had 152 points. Palo Verde was second with 119, followed by Pahrump Valley with 72 and Faith Lutheran with 66.
Williams won the 100-meter dash in 12 seconds and took the 200 in 25.6. Bonds took the 100 hurdles in 15.3 and the 300 hurdles in 46.0.
Centennial teams also won three of the four relays.
Palo Verde’s Ashlie Blake captured the discus with an effort of 126 feet, 11 inches and the shot put at 42-3¼.
In the boys meet, Bishop Gorman won only three events, but used its depth to take home the team title.
The Gaels had a team score of 115. Centennial was second at 93½, followed by Palo Verde with 84½ and Arbor View with 79½.
Gorman got individual victories from Nathan Starks in the long jump (19-11½) and Jamir Tillman in the high jump (5-10), and had the winning 400 relay team.
Bonanza’s Jayveon Taylor claimed the 100 in 10.8 and the 200 in 22.0.
Centennial’s George Espino won the 1,600 in 4:48.4 and the 3,200 in 10:29.
Spring Mountain’s Romello Tatum took the 110 hurdles in 16.9 and the 300 hurdles in 46.1.
