ROUNDUP: Benitez, Trapp help Miners outlast Vikings
Alex Benitez had 12 kills, and Cody Trapp had 10 blocks and six kills as Sunrise Mountain’s boys volleyball team rallied for a 17-25, 25-19, 24-26, 25-19, 15-13 victory over host Valley on Monday.
Damon Burton added 37 assists, and Alvearo Morales had 18 digs for the Miners.
Peter Nunes led Valley with 45 assists and eight digs. Ignacio Diaz added 18 kills, and Mauricio Molina had 14 digs for the Vikings.
Desert Oasis 3, Bishop Gorman 2 — At Desert Oasis, Trevor Zarvian had 33 assists and eight digs to help the Diamondbacks to a 19-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-21,16-14 victory over the Gaels.
Zach Bobenhausen had 12 kills and two digs, Cameron Mich’l produced 13 kills, and Danny Eslinger added 16 digs for the Diamondbacks.
Gorman’s Bobby Houser had 35 kills and three aces, and Matt Lychock had 15 kills for the Gaels. Cameron Tom supplied 31 assists for Gorman.
Spring Valley 3, Durango 0 — At Spring Valley, Dallas Teshima recorded 22 assists and five aces as the Grizzles cruised to a 25-9, 25-12, 25-13 victory over Durango.
Blake Ringer had 15 kills, and Seth McGinn added four aces for Spring Valley.
Dex Alston had 21 digs for Durango. Rontraye Rainey and Josh Maury each added four kills for the Trailblazers.
Las Vegas 3, Canyon Springs 0 — At Las Vegas High, Luke Hansen had 30 assists as the Wildcats defeated the Pioneers, 25-10, 25-22, 25-21.
Tyler Crawford added six kills and three aces, and Garrett Jones and Ronnie Adams each had five kills for Las Vegas.
Alkeley Harris led Canyon Springs with nine kills, and James Harris had seven blocks for the Pioneers.
Bonanza 3, Sierra Vista 0 — At Bonanza, Cru Leavitt totaled 16 assists and four blocks to help the Bengals sweep the Mountain Lions, 25-17, 25-13, 27-25.
Price Jarman supplied 16 kills and four blocks, and Parker Evans added seven kills for Bonanza.
Preston Miranda had six kills, three blocks, and nine assists for Sierra Vista.
Clark 3, Western 0 — At Clark, David Samson had 17 assists and five blocks as the Chargers defeated the Warriors, 25-18, 25-17, 25-19.
Johnny Phane added six kills, and Joseph Wang had four kills and four blocks for Clark.
Mario Mendoza led Western with six kills and two blocks. Matthew Lewis added five kills, and Nash McIntosh had 10 assists for the Warriors.
Chaparral 3, Eldorado 0 — At Eldorado, Brian Poles had 18 assists as the Cowboys defeated the Sundevils, 25-18, 25-22, 25-16.
Ishmael Olo added four kills and five aces for Chaparral.
Julian Jacobs led Eldorado with 18 assists.
Desert Pines 3, Rancho 0 — At Rancho, Tony Savea had 18 assists and four aces to lead the Jaguars to a 26-24, 25-17, 25-22 sweep of the Rams.
Mike Gipson added 10 digs and seven kills, and Trevor Krystek supplied five blocks for Desert Pines.
Matt Brown had 12 digs for Rancho, which got five kills and four blocks from R’Mond Hill.
