ROUNDUP: Pitching trio boosts Palo Verde past Bonanza

Melissa Lacro, Rachel Williams and Melissa McCormick combined to toss a five-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts Thursday as Palo Verde’s softball team opened up its season with a 10-0 home win over Bonanza.

McCormick went 2-for-2 with a home run, a triple and five RBIs. Lacro was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Williams added two hits and two RBIs for Palo Verde.

Liberty 16, Spring Valley 0 — At Spring Valley, Diana Cassaro went 2-for-2 with a double to help the Patriots rout the Grizzlies in five innings.

Brittany Huff went 2-for-4 with a triple to help Liberty, which took over with nine runs in the second inning.

Georgi DeLio had both of Spring Valley’s hits.

Bishop Manogue 3, Bishop Gorman 1 — At Gorman, Megan Dortch tossed a two-hitter to lead the Miners past the Gaels.

Gorman broke up the shutout with a run in the seventh inning.

Legacy 6, Yuma (Ariz.) 1 — At Needles, Calif., Alexis Fuller went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs to help the Longhorns beat the Criminals in five innings at the Colorado River Invitational.

Legacy 10, Mountain View 1 — At Needles, Alysia Santos was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, two runs and pitched a five-inning three-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead the Longhorns by the Saints.

Danielle Pick went 3-for-3 with a double and scored two runs for Legacy.

Legacy 8, Pahrump Valley 0 — At Needles, Sierra Pico tossed a five-inning one-hitter with 13 strikeouts to power the Longhorns past the Trojans.

Santos was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Pico went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI for Legacy.

Faith Lutheran 11, Sierra Vista 5 — At Needles, Maya Barnes was 2-for-3 with a double, a homer and five RBIs to lead the Crusaders past the Mountain Lions.

Bri Yee was 2-for-3 with three runs for Faith Lutheran.

White Pine 2, Faith Lutheran 1 — At Needles, White Pine scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning to nip the Crusaders.

Lauryn Lipe was 1-for-2 with an RBI single for Faith Lutheran.

Cheyenne 6, Maple Mountain (Utah) 2 — At Mesquite, Rachel Holly went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Desert Shields to a six-inning victory in the Sherm Bennett Memorial Classic.

Holly also went the distance in the circle, holding Maple Mountain to four hits.

Lindsey Galindo went 2-for-3 to help Cheyenne.

Farmington (N.M.) 5, Centennial 2 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Chelsea Chavez tossed a one-hitter with nine strikeouts as Farmington downed the Bulldogs in the Tournament of Champions.

Taylor Huntly had an RBI single for Centennial.

Rio Rancho (N.M.) 11, Desert Oasis 7 — At Bullhead City, Rio Rancho used a five-run second inning and a four-run fifth to defeat the Diamondbacks.

Emily Heinz was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs for Desert Oasis, and teammate Natasha Chapman went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
