Consistent shooting allows Palo’s Melchiorre to claim top spot at Pahrump invite

Kyle Melchiorre’s two rounds of 1-over par narrowly clinched top honors at the Pahrump Valley Invitational.
The Palo Verde senior recorded a 73 for the second-straight day Wednesday at Mountain Falls to hold off two Snowflake (Ariz.) golfers for the title.
Melchiorre shot 146 for the two rounds, one stroke better than Snowflake’s Jordan Henderson — who carded a 69 Wednesday — and two better than Snowflake’s Kyle Jones.
Snowflake captured the team title in the Gold Flight, with a two-round total of 616, including a second-round score of 301. Palo Verde Silver was second with 623.
In the Silver Flight, Palo Verde Green shot a two-round total of 679 to beat Arbor View by 10 strokes.
Centennial’s Ben Newman and Palo Verde’s Max Hecker both shot 161 to tie for first in the Silver Flight. Bonanza’s Minsoo Kim carded a 163.
Virgin Valley took first in the Maroon Flight, winning with a score of 719. Centennial Blue was second at 732.
The Maroon Flight individual winner was Bishop Gorman’s Scott Stewart, who finished at 180. Pahrump Valley’s Josh Spradlin took second with 185.
