CLASS 1A: Wolverine girls net first-ever playoff win

Henderson International’s girls basketball team entered the Class 1A Southern League tournament looking for its first postseason win in program history.
If the Wolverines can play every first quarter like they did Tuesday, they might make winning in the playoffs a habit.
Fourth-seeded Henderson International scored the first 17 points on the way to a 48-29 quarterfinal win at home over fifth-seeded Beatty.
“The girls and I talked a lot about how we wanted to throw the first punch,” Wolverines coach Amanda Hall said. “We kind of wanted to jump out there and let them know early that we’re here to fight.”
Henderson International (16-8) entered the second quarter up 13-0, and held the Hornets (17-9) scoreless for more than two minutes into the second period.
The Wolverines advanced to play No. 1 seed Pahranagat Valley at 6:20 p.m. Friday at Durango in a semifinal with a ticket to the state tourney on the line. Lund plays Lake Mead in the other semifinal at 3 p.m. on Friday.
Brittany Huff led the Wolverines with 15 points, five rebounds and four steals.
“We started feeling the momentum,” Huff said of the 17-0 start. “We’re pretty confident in our defense.”
Henderson International’s Ashlyn Barela had nine points and four assists, and Lee Harrison grabbed eight rebounds.
Beatty’s Kaci Schroeder had six points and eight steals, and Alejandra Gonzalez and Melynda Gross each added six points.
Lund 49, Round Mountain 41 — At Lund, Melynda Boren had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead the Mustangs (9-12) past the Knights (6-16).
Ale Vega had 21 points, six rebounds and six assists for Lund, which outscored Round Mountain 38-24 in the second half.
Kattrena Akers led Round Mountain with 22 points, and Anissa Jones added 10 points for the Knights.
Pahranagat Valley 44, Trinity 24 — At Alamo, Halie Lewis led a balanced attack with 13 points and nine rebounds as the Panthers knocked off the Thunder.
Alyssa Higbee added eight points, and Dakota Day supplied seven points and eight rebounds for Pahranagat Valley (18-9).
Danielle Noll had eight points for Trinity (8-15), which trailed 23-9 at halftime.
Lake Mead 52, Tonopah 35 — At Lake Mead, Jordan Clarke had 19 points to help the Eagles eliminate the Muckers (5-13).
Lake Mead (22-4) outscored Tonopah 23-9 in the first quarter, and led 32-12 at the half.
BOYS
Pahranagat Valley 46, Spring Mountain 40 — At Alamo, Cody Hosier scored 12 points to help the Panthers (18-10) edge the Eagles.
Leon Saunders led Spring Mountain (9-14) with 14 points. Samuel Batton and Brock McQuade added 10 points each for the Eagles.
Lake Mead 64, Indian Springs 24 — At Lake Mead, the Eagles led 26-4 after the first quarter and cruised to an easy victory.
Landon Littlefield had 15 points and five steals, and L.J. Yamazon scored 13 points for Lake Mead (23-4).
De’Quan Thompson had 10 points, five assists and four steals for the Eagles, who held the Thunderbirds to eight second-half points.
Adam Reinke led Indian Springs (6-18) with 11 points.
