ROUNDUP: Gorman takes fifth in La Jolla (Calif.) tourney

Aaryn Ellenberg scored 30 points Saturday to help Bishop Gorman’s girls basketball team take fifth place in the La Jolla (Calif.) Country Day Sweet 16 Invitational with a 61-43 win over Vista Murrieta (Calif.).
The Gaels led 22-15 at the half and turned up the tempo to score 39 second-half points.
Amber Lane added seven points for Gorman.
Ellenberg was named to the all-tournament team.
Spanish Springs 50, Sierra Vista 45 — At Sierra Vista, Ari James scored 22 points, and the Cougars rallied from a 29-26 halftime deficit to beat the Mountain Lions.
Jeanette Jackson led Sierra Vista with 20 points. Johnie Pride added 17 points for the Mountain Lions.
Faith Lutheran 40, Fernley 26 — At Winnemucca, Kelsey McCourt scored nine of her 22 points during a 13-6 second-quarter run that helped the Crusaders down the Vaqueros.
Faith Lutheran led 21-12 at the half and extended the margin to 32-16 after three quarters.
Courtney Scheller had 10 points for Fernley.
Lincoln County 47, Virgin Valley 41 — At Calvary Chapel, Marissa Smerek scored 10 of her 24 points in the fourth quarter as the Lynx captured the Lake Mead Holiday Classic championship by downing the Bulldogs.
Kori Gloeckner added 10 points for the Lynx, who led 27-13 at the half.
Jenelle Weythman led Virgin Valley with 16 points, and Madison Bowler added 12.
Moapa Valley 46, Beatty 35 — At Calvary Chapel, Shilo Parashonts scored 17 points to help the Pirates take the third-place game in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.
Caley Dunlap added 12 points for Moapa Valley.
Kaci Schroeder paced the Hornets with 14 points.
McDermitt 52, West Wendover 47 — At Elko, McDermitt scored the final six points of the game to pull out a victory over the Wolverines.
Danika Sharp scored 31 points for West Wendover, which had a one-point lead with 1:18 to go but committed three turnovers in a 50-second span.
Candy Roland added seven points for the Wolverines.
