Locals to play in all-star games

A handful of area high school baseball standouts are set to play in all-star games this weekend in San Diego.

Former Las Vegas High catcher Bryce Harper and Bonanza senior infielder Kris Bryant will play Sunday in the Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic at Petco Park. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports West (Cox 49) at 5 p.m.

Harper, who will forgo his final two seasons of high school to play next year at the College of Southern Nevada, is a nominee for the Jackie Robinson Award, which is presented to the Aflac National High School Player of the Year. The winner of the award will be announced Saturday in San Diego.

Rancho junior pitchers Eric Holdren and Zak Qualls are set to pitch in the Perfect Game Aflac Showcase at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the University of San Diego.
