ROUNDUP: Shadow Ridge escapes Palo Verde’s upset bid
Jeremy Makaiwi dished out 48 assists Wednesday as Shadow Ridge’s boys volleyball team survived an upset bid with a 25-23, 28-30, 16-25, 26-24, 15-10 victory at Palo Verde.
Jake Shea added 19 kills and 15 digs for the Mustangs (19-0, 13-0 Northwest), Ryan Nolan had 17 kills and 15 digs, and Jeff Elmer logged 34 digs.
Matt Lish had 60 assists to lead the Panthers. Tyler Capko had 33 kills, Shawn Carroll 15 and Nick Hipwell 10 for Palo Verde.
Valley 3, Chaparral 1 — At Valley, Jim Videaux registered 17 assists, 10 kills, four digs, three blocks and two aces as the Vikings kept their playoff hopes alive with an 18-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23 win over the Cowboys.
Alonzo Blount added 13 kills and three aces for Valley, and teammate Taylor Herrington added 11 digs, nine kills and six blocks.
Canyon Springs 3, Rancho 2 — At Rancho, Adam Tuala’s 11th kill of the match capped a 15-9 run in the fifth game as the Pioneers rallied for a 15-25, 25-19, 12-25, 27-25, 16-14 win over the Rams.
Kapahu Kahalepo had eight kills and five blocks for Canyon Springs, Raymond Estevez had 23 assists and four kills, and Garvin Tanbangcura added 20 digs.
Rancho’s Kevin Plascencia had 19 digs, 10 kills and eight blocks, Kevin Wadsworth had 29 assists, and Kamran Baig added 15 digs.
Desert Pines 3, Eldorado 0 — At Eldorado, Dalton Leilua dished out 28 assists to lead the Jaguars to a 25-19, 29-27, 25-22 win over the Sundevils.
Desert Pines’ Dominique Lawrence added 17 kills and Paul Bennett had nine kills.
Cimarron-Memorial 3, Legacy 0 — At Cimarron, Mario Bautista had seven kills and 16 digs and Taylor Sorenson recorded 28 assists to help the Spartans beat the Longhorns, 25-22, 25-18, 25-19.
Cimarron’s Scott Beckwith added 14 kills.
Legacy was led by Ben Noel with 16 assists and Ethan Ewing with nine kills.
Centennial 3, Mojave 0 — At Centennial, McKay Holly’s seven kills helped the Bulldogs to a 25-9, 25-9, 25-3 win over the Rattlers.
Centennial’s Cameron Olsen added four kills and Ryan Ramin had seven aces.
Arbor View 3, Cheyenne 0 — At Cheyenne, Taylor Jones had 23 assists and three aces and Landon Steele added 13 kills as the Aggies beat the Desert Shields, 25-23, 25-16, 25-18.
Cheyenne’s Rodgrick Moore had 24 assists and three kills and Daniel Moore tallied nine assists and five kills.
Bishop Gorman 3, Desert Oasis 1 — At Desert Oasis, Cameron Tom dished out 25 assists to help the Gaels to a 21-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-9 win over the Diamondbacks.
Gorman’s Bobby Houser had 14 kills and Alex Turner logged 13.
Desert Oasis’ Alex Trillo had four aces, and Chris Mariani and Zach Bobenhausen each added two kills and three blocks.
Clark 3, Western 0 — At Western, the Chargers posted a 25-22, 25-20, 25-23 win over the Warriors.
