Kato, Faith Lutheran win 3A tournament title

Yuki Kato shot 2-under-par 70 to earn medalist honors and lead the Faith Lutheran boys golf team to the Class 3A Southern League tournament title Wednesday at CasaBlanca Golf Club in Mesquite.

Faith Lutheran carded a 407 team total, edging Moapa Valley (408). Virgin Valley (423) was third, followed by Boulder City (442).

Faith Lutheran and Moapa Valley clinched berths to the state tournament, which begins Monday at Spring Creek Golf Course. The top five individuals from non-qualifying teams also earned trips to state.

Kato was followed by teammates Alex Vance (80), Charley Berry (84), Trevor Ensign (86) and Chad Kaercher (87).

Jon Oglesby led Moapa Valley at 79. He was followed by Travis Causey (79), Bracken Brown (81), Cody Kelly (82) and Marcus Delgadillo (87).

Individuals from non-qualifying teams headed to state are Virgin Valley’s Ryan Baeza (78), Boulder City’s Ryan Roundtree (79) and Virgin Valley’s Justin Cascadden (81), Aiden Sullivan (82) and Anthony Lucero (82).
