2A STATE: Wendover’s Doudy places seventh, Whittell takes team title

West Wendover’s Will Doudy carded a 14-over 86 on Wednesday at Edgewood-Tahoe in Stateline to finish in a tie for seventh in the Class 2A state golf tournament.

Doudy and Incline’s Justin Holets each had a two-round total of 167. Mineral County’s Foster Kenton shot 80 on Wednesday, but held on to win with a total of 155, one stroke better than Whittell’s Trevor Fairbank and Jonathan Szendrey. North Tahoe’s Alec Griffith was fourth at 157.

Whittell won the team competition with a total of 835. Incline was second at 860, followed by Battle Mountain (948), Needles (959) and Round Mountain (1,087).

Cullen Pottmeyer led Needles, finishing 12th at 175, one spot ahead of Tonopah’s Denver Otteson, who tied Whittell’s Steven Mick at 177.

Mountain View’s Dennis Bee rebounded from an opening-round 95 to finish in a tie for 16th at 183.

Lake Mead’s Joey Velesquez and Tyler Hitchler and Round Mountain’s Will Sweeney tied for 18th at 184.
