RECRUITING: ‘A special group’ of football players poised to move on
January 14, 2009 - 8:25 pm
When he caught a glimpse of his freshman class in 2005, Cheyenne football coach Charles Anthony had a feeling the group would become something special.
And as the Feb. 4 signing day approaches, the Desert Shields likely are to have the most Football Bowl Subdivision signees in Southern Nevada. One player has committed, three others are close, and another has several offers, Anthony said.
“I just knew this group was a special group,” Anthony said. “When they came in as freshmen, they hung out and did everything together.”
Running back Marcus Sullivan committed to UNLV in December. Linebacker Damien Proby, whose only visit was to Northwestern in December, has at least seven offers but has yet to commit.
Cornerback Khyriece Campbell and free safety Kevontae Clark are leaning toward Utah State, but UNR is making a late push for the duo.
Offensive lineman Jeremiah Tofaeono has visited UNR and has offers from Utah, Utah State and Washington.
