RECRUITING: Local baseball trio signs with Western Nevada

Western Nevada College has signed three area baseball players to letters of intent, Wildcats coach D.J. Whittemore said Friday.

Cimarron-Memorial left-hander/outfielder Kody Gorden and right-hander/outfielder Taylor Doyle will be joined by Sierra Vista outfielder Brooks Klein with the Wildcats next season.

“Kody is one of the top pitchers in the entire (Las Vegas) valley,” Whittemore said. “He’s a left-handed pitcher with good velocity and good movement.”

Doyle will come in immediately as a two-way player, Whittemore said.

Klein’s signing marks the fifth consecutive year a player from Sierra Vista has signed with Western Nevada, Whittemore said.

“Brooks is a very bright kid in the classroom, to say the least,” Whittemore said. “He really fits the mold of the kid we’re trying to bring in, in terms of academic and athletic excellence.”
