Laughlin wins 2A Southern League wrestling crown

Laughlin advanced seven scoring wrestlers to championship matches Saturday and won the Class 2A Southern League wrestling meet in its own gym.
The Cougars, who had three league champions, finished with 188 points. Indian Springs was second with 149½.
Corey Cook (140 pounds), Allen Layno (215) and Jamie Volker (285) captured individuals title for Laughlin, which also had four scoring wrestlers and one nonscorer gain second-place finishes.
Laughlin had eight scoring wrestlers advance to the state meet, which begins Friday at Winnemucca. The top four finishers in each weight class at the league meet advance to state.
Third-place White Pine and fourth-place The Meadows each had three champions.
Skylar Hall (103), Chase Stanton (125) and Rusty Lewis (152) won for the Bobcats, who will send eight scoring wrestlers to state.
Josh Raimist (171) and brothers Mike Kenny (135) and Pat Kenny (189) won titles for The Meadows, which had six wrestlers earn top-four finishes.
Indian Springs will take eight wrestlers to state, including 160-pound champion Derrek Oliver.
Other individual winners were: West Wendover’s John Roberts (112), Lincoln County’s Maurico Escobedo, Pahranagat Valley’s Jensen Jones (130) and Tonopah’s Cody Serfoss (145).
Despite not having a finalist in any weight class, Spring Mountain had eight top-four finishers.
