Tech boys, girls sweep Virgin Valley invite

Tech's boys packed four runners in the top seven at Old Mill Park in Mesquite on Saturday to win the large school race of the Virgin Valley Invitational.

Jose Escamilla led a pack of four across the finish line, placing fourth in the 3.1-mile race in 17 minutes, 26 seconds. Eduardo Cordova (fifth), Chris Rising (sixth) and Dominic Douglas (seventh) finished within 19 seconds of Escamilla.

Valley's Solomon Belay was the individual winner, finishing in 16:50, one second ahead of Las Vegas' Aaron Adkins.

Tech had a team score of 33. Valley was second with 55, followed by Durango (65), Las Vegas (67) and Pahrump Valley (129).

The Roadrunner girls had four runners in the top 10 to win the girls large school race.

Pahrump Valley's McKenzie Dean won the race in 20:43, nine seconds faster than Tech's Ana Mata.

The Roadrunners had a team score of 38. Valley was second with 52, followed by Durango (80), Las Vegas (82) and Pahrump Valley 99).
