Tonopah starters have short day in blowout win

Tonopah’s varsity team played only a little more than a quarter and left with a 31-0 lead as the Muckers (5-2, 4-0 Class 1A Southern) rolled to a 55-16 win over host Sandy Valley on Friday.

Scott Thibodeaux scored on a 45-yard run and a 43-yard punt return, and hit Denver Otteson on a 20-yard scoring pass for Tonopah.

Otteson also had a 20-yard touchdown run and kicked three extra points, giving him 21 for the season, which broke the school record of 19.

Cedrick Kirby added touchdowns on runs of 41 and 50 yards for the Muckers, who led 39-0 at the half.

Nick White scored on a 19-yard run in the fourth quarter for Tonopah.

Randal Spencer had a 3-yard touchdown run for the Sidewinders (0-7, 0-5). Conner Luther caught a 19-yard TD pass from Andrew Arista.
