Andersen captures Northwest singles title

Everyone Neil Andersen played Saturday was well-rested.

While the Arbor View sophomore was toiling away on the tennis courts at Cimarron-Memorial, each of his three opponents had the benefit of not having had to play an earlier match.

It didn't matter.

Andersen won three consecutive matches to capture the boys title at the Northwest Singles Tennis Championships. Andersen downed Cimarron-Memorial's Cameron Tatz, 6-2, 6-1 in the final.

Andersen began the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Centennial's Austin Howell.

He then faced Palo Verde's Dylan Casey, who drew a bye into the semifinals. Andersen won the first set, but lost the second in a tiebreaker. He won a super tiebreaker, 10-8 to advance to the title match.

Tatz also had a quarterfinal bye, then moved into the championship match when Christian Clark of Palo Verde retired. Clark won a quarterfinal match and would have played Tatz in the semifinals.

Andersen also was a part of the championship team at last week's Northwest Doubles Invitational, pairing with Jeff Schuerman to win that title.
