Spartans place two boys, two girls in Northwest Singles quarterfinals

Cimarron-Memorial advanced two players to the quarterfinals in both the boys and girls draws of the Northwest Singles Tennis Championships on Friday.
Cameron Tatz and Matt Mabida moved into the final eight on the boys side. Kate Johnesee and Hanny Castro advanced to the quarterfinals on the girls side. Play continues Saturday at 8 a.m. at Cimarron, with semifinal action to start at approximately 9:30 a.m. and the championships to follow.
Tatz won his lone match Friday, defeating Palo Verde's Jordan Diab, 6-3, 6-2. Tatz and Palo Verde's Dylan Casey, who won twice Friday, both drew quarterfinal byes as several players did not attend the tournament.
Mabida will meet Palo Verde's Christian Clark in another quarterfinal. Centennial's Austin Howell and Arbor View's Neil Andersen will square off in the other quarterfinal.
In the girls draw, Castro will face Palo Verde's Chelsey Koktavy; Johnesee will meet Centennial's Nicole Moore; Centennial's Hannah Barnum will face Palo Verde's Tanja Dito; and Arbor View's Taylor Bland is scheduled to play Cheyenne's Leslie Gressler.
