Raiders sign Richie Incognito to contract extension
ALAMEDA, Calif — It didn’t take the Raiders long to begin looking ahead to the 2020 season.
The Raiders and veteran guard Richie Incognito have agreed Monday to terms on new two-year contract worth $14 million with $6.35 million guaranteed.
The Raiders took a chance on the 36-year-old Incognito last May after he had been out of football for a year. He had been sitting out following an arrest in August 2018 when he allegedly threatened employees at a funeral home in Scottsdale, Arizona, where his father’s body was being held.
Incognito plead guilty last March to a charge of disorderly conduct. Charges of threatening injury and damaging property were dismissed.
Incognito also had issues as a member of the Miami Dolphins in 2013, when he was accused of bullying teammate Jonathan Martin. He was suspended for the last eight games of 2013 and did not play in the NFL in 2014.
The Raiders were confident in the homework on him, relying on Incognito to help solidify the offensive line. The four-time Pro Bowler rewarded that faith with a rebound season that earned him Pro Bowl alternate honors.
