Apparent murder-suicide leaves father, 2 children dead in Las Vegas
A father appears to have shot and killed two of his teenage sons before fatally shooting himself Friday night inside their home in the northeast Las Vegas Valley, police said.
Officers arrived at 10:28 p.m. to the home in the 3900 block of Chasing Heart Way to find a teenage girl escaping from an upstairs window, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Ray Spencer said.
He said police found two teenage boys who appeared to have been shot and killed by the man, who then killed himself.
SWAT was called, Spencer said, and entered the home to try to conduct a hostage rescue. All three people were dead before SWAT breached the home, he said.
In a statement Saturday, police identified the suspect as Alejandro Figueroa, 45. Police found him with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the statement.
The teenage girl — police said she was the 911 caller who told dispatchers her father was shooting — was not injured, Metro said.
A police investigation showed “Figueroa had been drinking and handling a firearm, causing an accidental discharge,” according to the statement.
One of the victims called the police to report was Figueroa handling firearms while intoxicated, police said. “Figueroa became upset and shot the victims before turning the firearm on himself.”
The names of the victims — and the cause and manner of death — will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
