Parts of Henderson see rain, but Las Vegas dry spell continues
Parts of Henderson reported heavy rain and thunder on Monday evening, but the precipitation did not break Las Vegas’ dry spell, according to the National Weather Service.
About a quarter-inch of rain was measured in the Anthem area by 8:30 p.m., meteorologist Kate Guillet said. Heavy winds also were reported in some areas, including near St. Rose Parkway and Eastern Avenue.
Showers and thunderstorms were developing along the McCullough Range just south of Anthem, and winds of 30-40 mph were expected Monday night, the weather service tweeted.
But only trace amounts of rain were measured at McCarran International Airport, the weather service’s official station, Guillet said. In order to break the dry spell, the airport would have needed to see at least 0.01 of an inch of rain.
As of Monday, Las Vegas has had no measurable rain for 154 days at McCarran.
Smoke advisory
A smoke advisory issued for Clark County has been extended through Thursday.
“The haze and smoke is going to be there until the wildfires are put out, unfortunately,” meteorologist Jenn Varian said.

More than 3.5 million acres have burned in California in at least 27 major fires. Fire crews have been stretched thin, and major fires are raging in Oregon and Washington.
Monday is the last full day of summer, and Las Vegas hit a high of 99, well above the average of 92 for this time of year.
Temperatures are expected to stay pretty consistent in the high 90s for most of the week, Guillet said. The weather service is forecasting 99 on Tuesday, 98 on Wednesday, 100 on Thursday and 97 on Friday.
No more rain is expected this week, though Guillet said the week will likely be breezy, with gusts up to 25 mph in some parts of the valley.
