Updated February 28, 2021 - 1:08 pm

An “unusual item” that prompted a police response to the federal courthouse in downtown Las Vegas Sunday morning was determined to not be a danger to the public, Las Vegas police said.

Officers responded shortly before 10 a.m. to the Lloyd George U.S. Courthouse, 333 Las Vegas Blvd. South, after a security officer found an unusual item near an east entrance to the building, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Brian Boxler said.

Police set up a perimeter, and hazardous materials investigators and the bomb squad were called to the scene, Boxler said.

He said the item appeared to be abandoned property that someone left near the courthouse.
