1 dead, several injured after crash in east Las Vegas

Updated August 1, 2021 - 9:02 pm

A 24-year-old man is dead and seven people were injured after a multi-vehicle crash Sunday in east Las Vegas, police said.

Officers responded to the crash involving six vehicles just before 2 p.m. at 5270 South Pecos Road, near East Hacienda Avenue, Las Vegas police Lt. Brian Boxler said.

Before the crash, police said three cars were driving north on Pecos Road just as two cars were driving south at the Hacienda intersection. All five drivers had a green light.

That’s when police said a Honda driver ran a red light into the intersection, headed east on Hacienda. The two cars headed south on Pecos hit the Honda, then all three cars slid across the roadway, plowing into the three northbound cars.

The 24-year-old driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Seven people from the other five cars involved in the wreck were taken to area hospitals; five people had moderate injuries, one person had minor injuries and another person — a 70-year-old man — was critically injured.

Pecos was closed in both directions at Hacienda for several hours Sunday. The road was expected to reopen Sunday evening.

The Clark County coroner’s office will name the person who died once relatives have been notified.
