Updated September 30, 2021 - 6:20 pm

Las Vegas police helped break up a series of fights at Western High School in central Las Vegas Thursday afternoon.

At least eight Clark County School District police cars were observed in front of the school at 4601 W. Bonanza Road at 2 p.m.

Multiple students said there was a series of fights at the school between students, and that pepper spray was deployed by police.

Las Vegas police said only that they received a request for assistance from school police at 12:36 p.m.

The school district told parents in a statement that officers were called to “diffuse the situation and disperse the crowd.”

“When the officers could not separate the students, they were warned that pepper spray would be utilized,” the school district said. “The fight continued and police were forced to use the spray. As a result, several students who were in the immediate area were possibly affected by the spray and needed to see the health office for treatment.”

No other information was immediately available.
