Teenage girl dies in Beatty crash

A teenage girl died in a rollover crash over the weekend in Beatty, about 100 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

Deputies with the Nye County Sheriff's Office were called to a gravel road near Indian Springs Road in Beatty about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. A cream-colored Jeep Cherokee was speeding and lost control, crossing from the northbound lane into the southbound lane and colliding with the culvert that runs along the northbound lane, the department said.

The Jeep rolled an unknown number of times, and a 14-year-old girl, identified as Tyra Welch Grover on social media, was thrown through the sunroof and died at the scene.

Two other 15-year-olds, a girl who was driving and a male passenger, were taken in an ambulance to University Medical Center. Deputies said those teens were wearing seatbelts, but investigators don't think Grover was.

In a post on social media, the Beatty High School student's mother, Jordanna Toviah Grover, said she had suffered a huge loss but she thanked the emergency personnel who responded to the crash.

The two other youths were expected to be OK, the woman wrote.
