2 boaters killed, 5 hurt on Colorado River

Two people were killed and five others were injured when two boats collided on the California side of the Colorado River on Friday.

The operators of both boats were killed on impact during the 6:17 p.m. collision about one-half mile north of the Needles Bridge, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

They were identified as Larry Goodrich, 62, of Mohave Valley, Ariz., and Daniel Ryan, 36, Lakewood, Calif.

An agency news release indicated five peple were transported to area hospitals for treatments of various injuries. The names of the two men who were killed were initially withheld.

The crash remained under investigation.
