1 killed, 2 hurt in shooting at community college in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — One person was killed and two others wounded in a shooting at a Sacramento community college, police said on Thursday.

All three of the shooting victims were male, police said.

The shooter, who police described as a male of Pacific Island descent and wearing cargo shorts and no shirt, was still at large by 5 p.m., police said.

Sacramento City College was placed on lockdown after the 4 p.m. shooting near the school's baseball field, police said.

College spokesman Rick Brewer said that one of the four people involved in the shooting was a student, but he did not say whether the student was a victim or the shooter.

He said in an email to Reuters that students were being allowed to go home building by building, after police determined it was safe.

Brewer told Sacramento Fox 40 TV that there was an argument on the campus, which culminated in one person pulling out an automatic weapon and shooting the other three.

Police had initially said that the shooting was across the street from the campus, but later said it was on campus near the baseball field.
