Crews looking for man who jumped off boat at Lake Mead

Rescue crews are looking for a man who jumped off a boat at Lake Mead National Recreation Area Sunday afternoon, park officials said.

The 24-year-old North Las Vegas man was wearing a life jacket that came off when he hit the water, park service spokeswoman Christie Vanover said. He wasn’t seen coming back up.

National Park Service Rangers, and crews from the U.S Coast Guard and Nevada Department of Wildlife were searching near Boulder Basin, about a half mile from the shoreline, Vanover said. The area is 80 to 160-feet deep.

The rescue team was conducting an in-water search using sonar and underwater cameras, Vanover said about 6:15 p.m.

Once daylight is gone, the operation will be limited to patrols and will resume Monday after sunrise, Vanover said.
