Man arrested in fatal shooting near Las Vegas Academy

A suspect in a fatal shooting near Las Vegas Academy early Thursday has been arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department.

Authorities charged Major Sanford, 44, on seven felony charges, including open murder with a deadly weapon.

The Clark County coroner’s office has not yet identified the victim or their cause of death.

Police responded to the shooting shortly in the 400 block of South 10th Street before 7 a.m. Officers found a man in the living room of a nearby apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his head, Metro reported.

Medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Sanford was seen shooting into the victim’s apartment, police said. He is being held at the Clark County Detention Center.

The school was briefly locked down while police investigated the shooting.
