Three pedestrians and a motorcyclist were killed in the Las Vegas Valley within about 12 hours Friday night and early Saturday, according to law enforcement.
In releasing a list of the most dangerous intersections in the valley just a few days ago, the Metropolitan Police Department urged pedestrians and drivers to be much more careful.
“We need everyone to do their part, both drivers and pedestrians, to help prevent more tragedy and death on the roads,” the department stated in a post on X.
The motorcyclist was killed Friday evening while traveling on U.S. Highway 95 southbound near West Lake Mead Boulevard and struck the rear of an SUV, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Police said speeding is suspected as a factor in the crash.
On Monday, the Clark County coroner’s office identified the motorcyclist as 38-year-old Edward Montgomery and said he died of blunt force injuries.
The first pedestrian death came about 3 p.m. Friday when a pedestrian was killed by a semi-truck at St. Rose Parkway and I-15, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
About 8:25 p.m. Friday a second pedestrian was killed at East Tropicana Avenue near South Maryland Parkway just north of Harry Reid International Airport, Metro said.
Police said a preliminary report showed a pedestrian was crossing Tropicana Avenue outside of a marked or implied crosswalk east of Maryland Parkway when the pedestrian was struck by an unregistered 2022 Cadillac XT5 traveling east on Tropicana Avenue.
The pedestrian walked into the path of the approaching Cadillac and was struck. Medical personnel determined the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries.
Police said the driver of the Cadillac exhibited indications of impairment and was booked for DUI-related charges.
Four motorists in the Cadillac were not injured.
The pedestrian’s death marked the 13th traffic-related fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction this month.
The third pedestrian fatality occurred at Interstate 15 and Sahara Avenue about 3:15 a.m. Saturday.
Investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol, the preliminary investigation indicated that a vehicle exiting the I-15 northbound at Sahara Avenue off-ramp struck a pedestrian who, for reasons not known, was in the travel lane of the off-ramp.
The pedestrian, an adult male, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was cooperating with troopers. The crash remains under investigation.
The Clark County coroner’s office identified Tyson Bailey, 27, of Las Vegas, on Monday as the pedestrian who was killed.
An Uber driver saw what he believed to be the pedestrian near a stranded vehicle just north of the Sahara off-ramp around 3 a.m., in an email to the Review-Journal later Saturday morning.
“I was Ubering and getting ready to exit a little before 3 a.m.,” Aaron Juarez stated. “This guy was way out in the right lane next to a car that looked like maybe had a flat. He was on the phone and looked like he was yelling and stomping his feet.
“As I approached I saw the car on the side. The truck in front of me changed lanes and I saw the guy standing in the lane. I had to change lanes so I wouldn’t hit him.”
Juarez said on his next fare from Fremont Street to the Bellagio he saw the emergency lights on the northbound lanes of I-15.
“I hoped I wouldn’t see this story today,” Juarez said.
