This isn’t the Christmas you remember in new ‘Krampus’ trailer — VIDEO

LOS ANGELES — Universal Pictures has decided to beat the Christmas rush, releasing its first trailer for horror-comedy "Krampus" three months ahead of its Dec. 4 launch.

The trailer sets up the premise of a young boy -- played by Emjay Anthony -- losing the holiday spirit when his dysfunctional family clashes, causing the emergence of the wrath of the demonic Krampus, a force of ancient evil intent who causes holiday icons to take on a monstrous life of their own.

The Universal-Legendary Pictures title stars Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Stefania Lavie Owen and Krista Stadler.

"Krampus" is directed by Michael Dougherty from a script he wrote with Todd Casey and Zach Shields about the demon who's the opposite of Santa Claus in German folklore. Producers are Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, Alex Garcia and Dougherty.
