Former Rebel Bingson advances in hammer throw at world championships

Amanda Bingson was one of 12 participants to advance to the finals in the hammer throw Tuesday in the IAAF World Championships in Beijing.
Bingson, a Silverado High School graduate who competed in track and field at UNLV from 2009 to 2012, placed 11th overall with a throw of 229 feet, 7 inches.
A three-time Mountain West champion in the hammer throw and 2012 London Olympics participant, Bingson will compete in the world finals starting at 4 a.m. PDT Thursday.
