Metro police investigated a fatal auto-pedestrian collision in the west Las Vegas Valley on Wednesday afternoon.
The collision occurred about 3:50 p.m. at West Desert Inn and South Ford Apache roads when an elderly man, age 92, tried to cross Desert Inn outside of a crosswalk, according to the Lt. Charles Jenkins of the Metropolitan Police Department.
The pedestrian was taken to University Medical Center where he later died. The driver of the vehicle showed no signs of impairment, police said.
The name of the deceased will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office.
In a later statement, police said a “2010 Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound on Desert Inn Road, approaching Fort Apache Road in the middle travel lane. The right travel lane on Desert Inn Road was closed and marked by a traffic control signal board and cones. A pedestrian was crossing over Desert Inn Road, west of Fort Apache Road, from north to south, outside a marked or implied crosswalk. A collision occurred when the pedestrian crossed the Ford’s path of travel. The front of the Ford collided with the right side of the pedestrian. The pedestrian was projected forward and onto the roadway.”
It was the third traffic fatality in the valley on Wednesday. Another pedestrian was killed when hit by a truck in North Las Vegas and a motorcyclist was killed in the central valley about 6 a.m.
