Bail set at $500K for man accused in Las Vegas burglary spree

A judge set bail at $500,000 for a man accused of committing over 30 burglaries in the Spring Mountain corridor, mostly at Asian restaurants, and stealing more than $213,000.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Rebecca Saxe found probable cause for the arrest of Cedric Hasan, 34, at a hearing Wednesday morning. She noted before setting bail that while he has a nonviolent criminal history and a job, he also has a history of prior burglaries.

Hasan faces 34 counts of burglary of a business, second or subsequent offense, and a charge of theft over $100,000.

If he posts bail, she ordered him to be on high-level electronic monitoring and be subject to a source hearing that would examine where the bail money came from. He also must stay away from the businesses he’s accused of victimizing if released.

The string of burglaries, which mainly targeted Asian restaurants, began in June, according to police.

In October, the FBI put up a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Michelle Jobe said it was Hasan’s cellphone pinging in some of the burglaries that allowed law enforcement to find him. She said the GPS system of Hasan’s car also indicated it was present at all but two of the burglaries.

Hasan has previous felony convictions and a history of committing commercial burglaries, according to Jobe. In a 2019 case, he continued to commit business burglaries while on probation. His probation was revoked and he went to prison, she said.

After a prison sentence in a 2021 case, she said, he completed a Hope for Prisoners program, got job training and was placed in an $87-an-hour welding job.

Police previously said the suspect in the burglaries would cover his face and wear large gloves that resembled welding gloves.

A search of Hasan’s house Tuesday found “corroborating evidence,” including a crowbar and gloves similar to those seen in surveillance video, Jobe said.

Jobe asked for Hasan to be held on $2.5 million bail with high-level electronic monitoring and an order he stay away from burglarized locations, plus Spring Mountain Road between Interstate 15 and Jones Boulevard. She also requested a source hearing if Hasan posts bail.

Public defender Josie Bayudan said Hasan has no history of violence and is not a flight risk. He has a job and lives with his children and their mother, she said.

Hasan has an additional North Las Vegas business burglary case pending, according to Jobe.

Bayudan requested Hasan’s bail be set at $10,000 with high-level electronic monitoring.

At a 2022 Hope for Prisoners graduation ceremony, Hasan talked about pursuing a better future.

“My long-term goals are to establish a career, reconnect with my family — basically just be the best version of myself and keep building myself,” he said at the time. “I’m not perfect, but I’m always going to work on myself and remain a law-abiding citizen.”
