Man fatally shot in central Las Vegas on Saturday identified

The man shot and killed early Saturday morning in the central Las Vegas Valley has been identified.

Ernesto Chacon, a 24-year-old Las Vegas resident, was shot in the head inside his car, the Clark County coroner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

About 2:15 a.m., police were dispatched to a parking lot in the 4300 block of South Jones Boulevard, near West Rochelle Avenue, after receiving a report of a man being shot, police said. Police found Chacon in his vehicle, and medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police said Chacon was shot by a passenger when he parked the vehicle. The passenger fled the scene, police said.

No arrests have been made in connection with this case, and police have not released any information regarding a possible suspect.

This is the 36th homicide in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2016.
