Las Vegas Mayhem win opener in Connie Mack regional

Juan Deolarte singled home Cruz Nevarez with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and give the Las Vegas Mayhem a 2-1 win over the Southern California Renegades on Tuesday in the Connie Mack West Regional at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Nevarez reached on an error by third baseman Justin Fowler to lead off the inning. He then stole second, and one out later scored on Deolarte’s single as the Mayhem won their opener in the double-elimination tournament.

Andrew Encinas pitched the distance, scattering six hits, for the Mayhem. He struck out six, walked three and hit a batter.

Nevarez and Deolarte each went 2-for-3 for Las Vegas, accounting for all of the team’s hits. Nevarez singled with one out in the first, stole second and scored on Deolarte’s two-out double.

Fowler was 2-for-3, including an RBI double in the second, for the Renegades.

Las Vegas will play NorCal Baseball at 4:30 p.m. today at Golden West College.
