UNLV eighth after first round of NCAA men’s golf regional

Sophomore Zane Thomas shot 3-over-par 75 to pace the UNLV men’s golf team Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Sugar Grove Regional in Illinois.
The Rebels are eighth after shooting 20-over 308.
Alabama-Birmingham leads at 4-over 292, with Illinois second at 293. Clemson and Kent State are tied for third at 299, with Jacksonville and Southern California tied for fifth at 302.
The top five teams from the 54-hole event will advance to the NCAA Championships from May 23 to 28 in Hutchinson, Kan.
