Magdaleno brothers score knockouts on Top Rank card

Diego and Jessie Magdaleno fought to easy wins Saturday in Top Rank’s boxing card in Hawaiian Gardens, Calif.

In the main event, Diego Magdaleno knocked out Jorge Pazos in the fourth round of their 10-round super featherweight bout. On the undercard, Jessie Magdaleno improved to 18-0 after stopping Roberto Castaneda in the fifth round of their eight-round super bantamweight bout.

Diego Magdaleno (25-1) started quickly, concentrating his attack on Pazos’ body. He landed a series of body blows in the third round before knocking Pazos down with a right hook to the chin.

That set up Magdaleno for the knockout in the fourth as he was throwing multiple punches before landing a right to the body that dropped Pazos (14-7-1), who did not get up. The knockout came at 2:27.

Jessie Magdaleno was in control early, dropping Castaneda twice in the second round, first with a left-right combination, then with a flurry of punches as the two exchanged blows in the corner. Castaneda (20-6-1) tried to battle back, but Magdaleno rocked him with a right-left combination to the head late in the fifth round. Castaneda went down and was counted out at 2:48.
