Female passenger killed in over-night car crash

A 19-year-old woman died Friday night when the car she was riding in crashed into a pole on Maryland Parkway near Bonanza Road.

According to Las Vegas police, drivers of an Acura Integra and a Ford F-150 were speeding towards a curve on Maryland Parkway and lost control around 12:30 a.m.

The Acura spun, sliding onto the median and hitting a light pole on the passenger side where the young woman was sitting. The Ford also began to spin, but it slid to a stop on the median, police said.

The passenger was pronounced dead on the scene, and the Acura driver was taken to the University Medical Center Trauma Unit with critical injuries.

The 17-year-old driver of the Ford was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving.

The incident remains under investigation by Las Vegas police.

This is the 86th traffic fatality under Las Vegas police jurisdiction this year.
