TODAY AT SANTA ANITA by Richard Eng

Post Time Noon

Race 1 - 7 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Starter allowance $10,000, 3-year-olds and up

1 Muchos Besos - Huge class drop points to an obvious contender; last time he ran at 7-furlongs he won two races ago.

7 Half Dome Dude - Tries a slightly tougher spot off a sharp win; these are clearly his friends at this class level.

Long Shot - 3 Big Note

Race 2 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $33,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up

2 Danderek - Has run 3 good races since being claimed by the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer; early speed to sit a nice trip.

10 Depreciable - Hate the parking lot post, but like the horse a lot; Jeff Mullins drop down figures to run best late.

Long Shot - 4 Major Magic

Race 3 - 1 mile, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up

3 Ella’s Kitten - Eric Guillot puts the for sale sign up; adding blinkers on and dropping from MSW to maiden claiming.

6 Crusher - The less races the better at this lowest level; need not be much horse to be competitive with these slowpokes.

Long Shot - 3 On Holy Ground

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up

9 Change of Plan - Peter Miller barn has had a wonderful meet; class dropper ran fast enough to beat these 2 races ago.

11 Turn On the Brites - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this new low level; still like the bugboy Irving Orozco.

Long Shot - 6 Lovmeister

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

2 Kathleen Rose - Ran great from post 10 last time out; goes down the hill for the first time, like the cut back in distance.

5 Peggy Sue’s Loose - Another cutting back in distance for the hill; big rider switch to Joe Talamo for the money shot.

Long Shot - 7 Tickle Again

Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

10 Beach Hut - There are many FTS in here, so why not Bob Baffert; your edge will be seeing the tote board activity.

3 Snuggley Bear - Showed improvement in second start versus debut; Julio Canani has been ice cold this meet.

Long Shot - 8 Rock Hard City

Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $51,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

10 Tribe - Like the cut back in distance; the parking lot post is an advantage going down the hillside turf course.

2 Ambitious Brew - Tepid chalk has run 3 good races to cash paychecks; has tactical speed to sit a decent trip.

Long Shot - 7 Free Time

Race 8 - 7 furlongs, Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

5 Mum’s Truckee - Suspect Peter Miller will let it all hang out on closing day; tries dirt for the first time.

8 Conkate - Doug O’Neill had good luck and bad in the BC; Goldencents was big in Mile win, Concave unlucky in accident race.

Long Shot - 3 Gifting

Race 9 - 1 mile (turf), $150,000 Goldikova, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

5 Egg Drop - Has found a nice career as a turf horse; has tactical speed to sit a nice trip and fight on late.

1 More Chocolate - Hasn’t been on turf in a year; she won twice on it, so the surface switch is no big deal.

Long Shot - 7 Miss Pippa

Race 10 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up

10 Sheriff Hutton - Tiny edge in a wide open finale to the meet; if you’re live in the Pick 6, I hope you are spread.

2 Western Seeker - Keith Nations got out of the business; runs first time for Paddy Gallagher, which can be a good thing.

Long Shot - 3 Awesome Okee

Best Bet - 9 Change of Plan (race 4)

Santa Anita Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 24/7/$51.60; Long Shots, 12/1/$15.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.60
