Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, Oct. 25

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Town Belle - Sliding down the claiming ladder for Jeff Mullins; off the turf angle is a positive in this spot.

1 Quinnette - Ran evenly with the blinkers off; Leonard Powell puts the hood back on, should see some improvement.

Long Shot - 2 Sydney’s Darling

Race 2 - 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up

3 Sarangani - Ran like a horse who needed a race in last off a 10-month hiatus; should move forward as he didn’t exert himself.

1 Blue Collar Boy - Showed good early speed before getting caught late; rail post at a mile should aid his style.

Long Shot - 4 Alydidit

Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Dow Diva - Tries turf again despite a slightly deceiving 0-for-7 mark on grass; shows best when ridden with speed.

7 Coconut Cream Pie - Last seen at the much tougher Del Mar meet; well rested and with 4-for-4 in the money finishes on sod.

Long Shot - 9 Little Unusual

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up

6 King Maya - Heavy chalk is more an indicator on the slowpokes in this field; his last race, if repeated, would crush these.

8 Honored Hero - Did a quick pop and stop in debut; key for me is he was well bet in debut and there is nothing in this field.

Long Shot - 7 Masochistic

Race 5 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $48,000, 3-year-olds and up

3 Maxx the Giant - Lost all chance at the start in last; usually he can attend the early pace and grind it out late.

7 Valtari - Carla Gaines barn is heating up at just the right time; this colt looks like he can run all day long.

Long Shot - 1 Navarre

Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds nd up

1 Frenemy - Another John Sadler cull slipping down the claiming ladder; will save all the ground and try and grind late.

7 Bobby Flay - Famous named horse never lived up to top billing; he’s racing now at the lowest level of his career.

Long Shot - 5 Warren’s Joe T.

Race 7 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds

1 Quiet Force - Richard Mandella may not win 4 BC races, but his stock looks ready to fire; this one is among his little fish.

6 Spring Up - His turf debut may show where his preference lies; ran a much improved race in skipping over the greensward.

Long Shot - 7 This One’s for Mel

Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up

4 Broker Brett - Takes another big class drop for John Sadler; he is culling out his barn while winning purses at the same time.

7 Anytime - Ran like a horse who needed a race in last; been away 10-months, has only one way to go and that’s up.

Long Shot - 1 Arizona Wildcat

Best Bet - 6 King Maya (race 4)

Santa Anita Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 14/2/$7.60; Long Shots, 7/1/$7.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Totals - 288/70/$477.00; Long Shots, 138/22/$271.40; Best Bets, 16/6/$23.00

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #6 Flash Forward (5/1) in race 8 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Occasional View won at Keeneland paying $4.60 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.60 to show. Stats - 166/111/$916.90; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
