For nostalgic tastes, stores carry Mrs. Grass’ soups

Oh, how we love those nostalgic tastes of our youth. I can remember Mrs. Grass’ Chicken Noodle Soup — in a box — from when I was a kid. It was a precursor to Cup-a-Soup, it seems, and what I most remember about it is the fine little noodles that we now might think of as fideo, and lots of parsley. I haven’t seen it in years and was unsure if it’s still being made when I received a request from Jamie Evans. But fellow Taste of the Town readers have once again come to the rescue.

Gerry Baxter and Bob Loch both found it at Winco at 80 N. Stephanie St. in Henderson; there’s another Winco at 6101 N. Decatur Blvd. And Libby Casolari found it at Glazier’s Food Marketplace, 8525 W. Warm Springs Road. Casolari added that Glazier’s also carries Mrs. Grass’ beef noodle soup. …

For Michael S. Breault, who is looking for reader recommendations for restaurants that serve good frutti di mare, Vickee Oberman suggested Mezzo at 4275 N. Rancho Drive, and Michele Bonelli suggested Cugino’s at 4550 S. Maryland Parkway, but added, “Call first (702-895-7561) to make sure they have what is needed.” …

More on Kona coffee: A couple of readers (and a coffee vendor in Indianapolis) took me to task last week after I printed readers’ reports of low-priced Kona coffee. They pointed out that those coffees are Kona blends, which I expected, and which clearly is perfectly acceptable to a ton of coffee lovers.

But here’s a reminder to always read labels, especially if a price surprises you.

I also heard from Cheryl Zellhoefer of Pahrump, who informed me that Pahrump Valley Roasters has fresh-roasted Kona.
