Driver dies after hitting stopped bus; several bus passengers hurt

An accident involving a Citizens Area Transit bus and a car left one dead and seven injured Saturday night, according to Las Vegas police.
About 9 p.m., as a CAT bus was unloading passengers at a bus stop at East Flamingo Road and Sheppard Street, near Boulder Highway, it was struck from behind by a 2007 Dodge Caliber. The driver of the Dodge was eastbound on Flamingo at a high rate of speed, police said. He will be identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.
The driver of the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene. Seven bus passengers were transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The bus driver was not injured.
The collision is still under investigation.
It was the 50th traffic-related fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction in 2013.
