Southwest Airlines announces service to Flint, Mich.

Las Vegas picks up a new, nonstop destination on Aug. 11: Flint, Mich.

Southwest Airlines, the largest carrier at McCarran International Airport, announced on Monday that it will begin once-a-day service to the birthplace of General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union. A promotional fare of $169 one way will be in effect through July 21 for flights through Dec. 18 except on Fridays and Sundays. In January, Southwest shows a lowest price of $194.

Las Vegas is already connected to Detroit and Grand Rapids, Mich. Flint, nearly 70 miles northwest of downtown Detroit, was available only through connecting flights.

While the flights are expected to appeal mostly to Las Vegas-bound tourists, those heading the other way can visit the Buick Automotive Gallery, a car museum, and the Crossroads Village, a re-creation of life in a 19th century town.
