UNLV teams take top prizes in Governor’s Cup Collegiate Business Plan Competition

Two UNLV undergraduate teams won top prizes and a total of $35,000 in the Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup Collegiate Business Plan Competition.

The winners were announced Thursday night during a ceremony in Reno, officials said. The statewide competition encourages students to use their ideas and talents to create tomorrow’s business, according to a news release.

The first University of Nevada, Las Vegas winning team won first place for the undergraduate category. The team took home $25,000, according to a list of the winners. The team designed SOLUTION Bar, which is a science-themed specialty bar that offers highly unique and molecular mixology beverages.

The second team won third place in the undergraduate category and took home $10,000. The team developed a “Gymnerate,” which is an energy brokerage company designed to take the energy from gym machines while in use and send it back to the grid, according to the list of the winners.
