Local colleges: UNLV baseball rallies for win over Bradley

Justin Jones’ three-run triple fueled a six-run sixth inning as the UNLV baseball team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat Bradley 8-3 on Saturday at Wilson Stadium.
Erik VanMeetren, Scott Tomassetti and T.J. White had RBI singles during the outburst, which put the Rebels up, 6-3.
In the eighth inning, Jones added an RBI sacrifice fly, and Joey Swanner had an RBI single for UNLV (8-3).
■ UNLV SOFTBALL — The Rebels lost two games at its Eller Media Stadium Classic, falling 2-1 to DePaul and 8-0 in five innings against New Mexico State. Tayler Van Acker’s RBI single in the third inning against DePaul plated the lone run of the day for UNLV (7-12).
■ UNLV MEN’S TENNIS — At La Jolla, Calif., Tamas Batyi and Johannes Markel advanced throught the first two rounds at the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship in La Jolla, Calif., but were eliminated by Stanford’s John Morrissey and Dennis Lin, 6-3, 6-0. Bernard Schoeman and Ace Mattias also won their first two matches before losing to noncollegiate entry Gregory Garcia and Tyler Lu, 6-3, 7-6.
■ UNLV TRACK AND FIELD — At South Bend, Ind., Emily Blok won the 60-meter dash at the Alex Wilson Invitational indoor meet, clocking 7.43 seconds. Kelsey Williamson took fifth in the 800.
The Rebels also hosted the UNLV Classic outdoor meet, getting wins from Ashley Franklin (100) and Ayana Gales (long jump).
■ CSN SOFTBALL — The College of Southern Nevada upset top-ranked Salt Lake Community College, winning 3-0 to halt Salt Lake’s 18-game winning streak before losing 8-0 to cap a doubleheader at the Russell Road Recreation Complex.
In the opener, Tiffani Taylor homered and Mikela Manewa scored on a throwing error in the third inning for the Coyotes (13-12, 8-8 Scenic West Athletic Conference). Starter Sarah Rivera went the distance, working around seven hits and five walks to hold the Bruins (21-4, 15-1) scoreless.
