February 9, 2013 - 2:13 am
Katie Uriarte hit a three-run home run, and Amanda Oliveto allowed one run in a five-inning, complete-game 10-1 victory for the UNLV softball team over No. 18 Louisville in its season opener — and first game under coach Lisa Dodd — Friday at the Sportco Kick-Off Classic at Eller Media Stadium.
The Rebels fell to DePaul 9-0 in five innings in the nightcap.
UNLV plays Central Florida at 6 p.m. today and Texas Tech at 8:15 p.m.
In other UNLV action Friday:
■ UNLV senior outfielder Brandon Bayardi was selected to the preseason Mountain West all-conference baseball team, and UNLV was picked fifth in the league’s preseason poll.
New Mexico was first with five first-place votes. Second-place San Diego State received the other first-place vote. UNR was third, Fresno State fourth and Air Force sixth.
Bayardi led the Rebels with a .361 batting average, seven home runs and 53 RBIs last season.
■ The UNLV women’s tennis team’s match with New Mexico State was postponed because of high winds at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The match will now be at 10 a.m. today. UNLV will then take on Pacific at 2 p.m. today and Weber State at 10 a.m. Sunday.
