Show & Tell: Jean-Luc D’Anjou of ‘Divas Las Vegas’

Q: You have a neat name. It's not a stage name?

A: That's my real name. It's French.

Q: Like the pear?

A: Yep. (Laughs) And I don't even eat pears.

Q: How long have you been with the show?

A: Since January. It's my first show and I'm loving it a lot. ... I had a friend who worked in the show. When he said they were looking for a swing, I was, like, "OK, let's give it a shot." I went there and nailed it (laughs). I was swing, and I finally moved into full time.

Q: Have you been dancing for long?

A: I've been dancing for 16 years. ... I did ballet, tap and jazz (as a kid). Those were my main ones. Then I got more into, like, ballroom. And I went to Las Vegas Academy, so I ended up doing modern and hip-hop and everything else.

Q: Were you thinking of pursuing a dance career while you were at the academy?

A: I always had baking in my mind, so I knew I've got to go to school for that.

Q: You just finished studying pastry at Le Cordon Bleu (College of Culinary Arts)?

A: Yes. I started Nov. 7 of last year. ... That's what I like about the show. I have to be there at 9 and the show starts at 10, and I can go to school and do what I need to do during the day, then go to work, and have fun doing everything.

Q: Are you going to continue school?

A: I plan to enroll at UNLV.

Q: To study what?

A: Business and finance. I want to own something eventually.

Q: A pastry business, perhaps?

A: Perhaps (smiles).

Q: Do dancing and baking have anything in common?

A: They're both very difficult to do. Like, a regular chef would say doing baking is a lot harder than regular cooking. I guess you could say the same thing about dancing. So, it's the same, whether you're trying to learn a dance or trying to learn a recipe.

Q: What about baking appeals to you?

A: The art. The creation. I'm not a big sweets fan, but I like making it. It makes people happy. Most people like sweets. And there's so much you have to wonder about.

Q: It sounds like you're having fun doing both.

A: Oh, yeah. Everybody says, "What do you do?" "Oh, I dance in 'Divas Las Vegas' on the Strip." "Oh, that's so cool. I wish I could dance."

Q: Does anybody ever say, "Oh, I wish I could bake?"

A: (Laughs) Not yet.
