Co-medalist Biddle powers UNLV men’s golf to second in Herb Wimberly tournament

Blake Biddle tied for first individually, helping the UNLV men's golf team to a second-place finish Tuesday in the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate at Las Cruces, N.M.
Biddle and Kansas' Chris Gilbert continued their matching run in the three-round event to share medalist honors. Both players shot 68s in the first and second rounds, and both shot 69 in the final round to finish at 8-under 205.
UNLV's Kevin Penner finished three strokes back in fourth place after his second straight 69.
Wichita State shot a sterling 8-under 276 in the final round for an 11-under 841 total and the team title, nine shots better than the Rebels in the 12-team event. UNLV, ranked 11th, shot even-par 284 in the final round.
■ WOMEN'S GOLF - UNLV posted the low round of the tournament and jumped from sixth to a third-place finish in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Stallion Mountain Golf Club. The Rebels shot 3-over 291 in the third round for a 34-over 898 total.
UNLV was four shots behind winner Indiana, with Central Florida second at 333 in the 18-team event.
Dana Finkelstein paced the Rebels, shooting even-par 72 for a 4-over 220 total to finish fifth, six strokes behind co-medalists Ally McDonald of Mississippi State and Elizabeth Tong of Indiana.
