Two UNLV players named to first-team all conference football team

UNLV senior linebacker John Lotulelei and junior kicker Nolan Kohorst were named first-team All-Mountain West Conference on Tuesday.

It's the first time the Rebels' football team has placed more than one player on the first team since 2006.

Junior running back Tim Cornett and sophomore offensive lineman Robert Waterman received honorable mention.

Lotulelei made 120 tackles, his 9.2-per-game average ranking third in the conference. Kohorst, a Green Valley High School graduate, made 12 of 14 field goals and 32 of 33 extra points.

Cornett rushed for 1,232 yards and seven touchdowns, but the Mountain West was deep at running back this season. Waterman graded out at 92 percent and allowed only one sack.

Fresno State dominated the conference's top-player awards, with junior quarterback Derek Carr (offense), senior defensive back Phillip Thomas (defense) and wide receiver Davante Adams (freshman) winning. Hawaii junior kick returner Mike Edwards was the Special Teams Player of the Year, and San Diego State's Rocky Long was the Coach of the Year.
